Garment Reproduction of Workers
Amongst a number of Japanese labels drawing inspiration from vintage European workwear, Garment Reproduction of Workers is one of but a handful that works faithfully to doggedly-sourced original patterns, rather than simply incorporating certain period elements into their clothing. Spending time sifting through French flea markets, designer Takahiro Oda was struck not only by the simple functionality of the 19th century workwear he uncovered there, but also by how the unwaveringly straight cuts echoed those of the kimono. With Garment Reproduction established in 2009 with the goal of making such pieces once again a part of people’s daily lives, manufacture is partly carried out right at the source in storied French factories, with the remainder done in Japan.
